There is a lake called Baekrokdam in the top crater. Baekrokdam means a pond where white deer drink water, but there are often no water at the top when they go in the summer. If you catch a good day after a heavy rain or typhoon, you can see the fullness of water.
According to legend, the top of a survey team (Seonmundae), which built Jeju Island, was cut from the top to create Baekrokdam. And the area where the questionnaire was thrown became Sambangsan, southwest of Jeju Island. Sanbangsan is a small rocky mountain formed by solid lava, which is only 345 meters above sea level. However, it is said that the circumference of the mountain coincides with the diameter of the top of Mt. Halla. In addition, the material of the stone is sleep cancer, just like the top of Mt. Halla. One can guess why the legend of "cut and fell" was born on Mt. Halla. In another version, he shot the bow to catch the deer, which he saw, but avoided, and because it matched the Jade Emperor's hip, the angry Sangje allegedly threw out the chubby part of the Hallasan and made a Baekrokdam, and kicked the hunter off and flew away.
In another version, the eldest son of 500 sons of the College of Inquiry failed to hunt and drew a protest in a fit of anger against the sky, which was why the arrow pierced through the clothes of the Jade Emperor. The angry Emperor Jade Emperor drew a rock and threw it on Mt. Halla, which was a point until then, but the current Baekrokdam was the site of the statue. The rock is said to have been embedded in Jeju Island and become the current mountain fortress.
The sign on the Baekrokdam Observatory says the Jade Emperor and his fairies used to drink.
In the past, many people came down to Lake Baekrokdam and took pictures, but now they are controlled by fences to keep them from going down.
