The construction of the fortress in Suwon, which was built by King Jeongjo during the Joseon Dynasty. It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site in December 1997 and is a planned city created under a careful pre-plan. The symbol and landmark of Suwon City.
Today's Suwon Hwaseong Fortress has restored some of its natural disasters and destruction during the Korean War.
The original structure to be listed on UNESCO was supposed to be the original structure, but Suwon Hwaseong Fortress did not comply with these rules, but it was able to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in recognition of its ability to restore the structure to its original form thanks to the Hwaseong Fortress Trail, which was thoroughly left with drawings and drawings during the Joseon Dynasty.
It is also called "Wosuseong" or "Hwasung" by Hwaseong City. From today's perspective, it may be strange that Mars is not in Hwaseong City and is in Suwon City. This can be understood by looking at the history of the historic administrative districts of Suwon and Hwaseong. The current Hwaseong city (Hwasung County) was originally part of Suwon County, which was renamed Hwaseong County after the remaining areas of Suwon County were renamed Hwaseong County in 1949 after Suwon City. Although Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was still in Suwon-eup, it was named after the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress to highlight the homogeneity of the remaining Suwon-gun and the Suwon-based region, which will be promoted separately. Before the construction of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, the original town of Suwon-bu (Suwon Do-hobu) was built in Hwasung-dong, Hwaseong-si, where King Jeongjo built his father’s apostolic garden (Hello) and moved the existing town to Suwon. In addition, "Hwasan," a Jinshan in Suwon, was also called the Suwon Gogee, which led to the castle being named "Hwasung." When the Suwon branch was promoted to the Yushu Ministry in 1793, it called the Suwon Ambassador "Hwasung Yushu (present-day Suwon Mayor)" and the Suwon Do-ho (present-day Suwon Department) "Hwasung Yushubu (present-day Hwaseong-bu).
The military function as a fortress to deter aggression is very well applied. It has many scientific advantages as a fortress, such as the invisible, visually hidden entrance to the wall from a distance. For example, a double structure and staircase are deftly obscured by the entrance, which can be seen from time to time as you walk along the wall. As shown in the picture above, holes drilled at regular intervals on the wall are for the retina. The gap and perforated angles vary, so access to various distances can be found, especially through the hole, which allows equatorial observation close to the wall. Most importantly, it is designed to be visible on top of the wall, but never to be seen by an observer when looking up the hole below it. Since most of the walls are drilled, I recommend that you pay close attention to the actual visit. It's amazing. Nor did it seem so, but there was some preparation for the cannon. If the Western-style fortress, which is represented as a plastic fortress, was designed to tilt the wall and deflect it in a star-shaped angle, Mars built a mud hill at the back of the wall that was about the same height as the wall, so that even if the shell penetrated through the wall, the fortress itself would not collapse. In fact, in any case, this fortification aspect is of very important feed value as a specimen of the fortification architecture of Northeast Asia during the construction period, and is one of the main factors that could have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage.
As a singularity, Paldalmun, the southern gate of Suwon Hwaseong, is not the main gate. Janganmun, whose main gate is the north gate. In Northeast Asia, the gate is generally the main gate, but in Suwon Hwaseong, King Jeongjo enters from the north when he comes from Hanseong to Suwon Hwaseong, so the gate is the main entrance for the king. So Janganmun is bigger than Paldalmun.
Sometimes there are people who know Paldalmun as Mars, which is just a part of Mars. As with Sungnyemun/Nammun Gate in Seoul City Wall, the walls on the left and right sides have been torn down due to traffic, making them appear to be independent architecture. In fact, even though it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a bit of a relief to be treated like this.
Since 2011, all routes to the fortress, excluding the left and right sides of Paldalmun Gate and the areas around Namsumun Gate, have been connected so that it can travel around Mars using Paldalmun Gate as its flag/end point. The trip to Mars takes about three hours by adult. For the same reason as Paldalmun, Changanmun Gate and Changryong Gate, which have been cut off from the left and right sides of the wall, are connected by an overpass., the connection between Paldalmun Gate and Paldalmun Gate is so difficult because it is already crowded with traditional markets and merchants, including Nolgol Market and Yeongdong Market, that it is virtually impossible to tear down all of them and connect the fortress.
On June 9, 2012, the restoration work of Namsumun Gate, which was destroyed during the Great Flood in 1922, was completed. The construction was carried out in conjunction with the demolition of the Dogae section of Suwoncheon Stream, which was restored on the basis of the Hwaseong Fortress Trail, but the lower sluice gate was maintained at nine but the details were restored quite differently to prepare for the flood. The original sluice gate was double arranged with pentagonal columns, and was empty between the columns of the fore and aft, but the restored Namsumun Gate was constructed with flat columns. This was carried out with the approval of the Cultural Heritage Administration's private subcommittee, but controversy remains in the academic circle in the future. However, all walls are now connected except for those on the left and right sides of Paldalmun Gate.
Visitors can enjoy walking, walk along the walls very well, and the scenery and small attractions that you can see while walking along the street are excellent. Especially, the wall road leading to Hwaseomun - Changanmun - Hwa Hongmun - Hwa Hongmun Gate - Hwahaeumun Waterproofing - The course is recommended if you want to set the mood with your lover on a sundown evening. The firewater boat on the hill next to Yongyeon, a lake next to Hwahongmun Gate, is a hidden date hot place in Suwon. The view of the entire planet from the fire hydrant is good, and the firewater looking up from the park is also beautiful. Tour trains are also available for viewing. The ticket price is 1,000 won per adult, and the ticket office checks the tickets in the middle of the same way. Suwon citizens will be exempted from the admission fee if they present their ID card with an address on it. In addition, a hot-air balloon was set up outside Changryong Gate to give a glimpse of Suwon Hwaseong in the parking lot on the occasion of the 2016 Visit to Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. It's only a little expensive.
Inside the fortress is the Hwaseong Fortress.
