Itaewon : one of Seoul’s leading multicultural streets

The administrative district of Yongsan-gu, Seoul is composed of Itaewon-dong and 2nd-dong. It is famous as a major downtown area in Seoul and as a rallying point for foreigners, foreign goods and foreign culture. embassies in many countries are also here, forcing foreigners to flock to them.

In the past, the 8th U.S. Army headquarters was located nearby, which developed into a entertainment center for U.S. troops in Korea and became a tourist destination for many foreigners, as people from various cultures spread their culture to Itaewon. Another reason is that there are many foreign embassies. The ratio of foreigners to the population in Itaewon is over 25 percent.

Religion

If you go up the hill from Itaewon Fire Station, you will see the Seoul Central Cathedral, an Islamic mosque, worshipping Muslims. Muslims in Korea come from the Arab world or from many Muslim countries such as Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Central Asia.

Taste

There are various world cuisine restaurants, but especially Muslim restaurants are strong. Unsurprisingly, prices are often much higher than local prices. If it is not an ordinary Korean restaurant or fast food restaurant, the 10,000 won per person is lightly transferred.

Near the mosque, there are quite a few restaurants selling Middle East or Arab food. In particular, there are many small bakeries run by Muslims or food stores that sell halal food. In the case of bakeries, the simple baguettes taste better than ordinary bakeries, like Islam, where tea and coffee culture are developed. People who live nearby seem to buy bread and eat at places like this.

Itaewon offers access to food from various cultures, attracting food lovers. In addition to the highly popular Indian curry already in Korea, you can eat the only Bulgarian restaurant in Korea, Brazilian cuisine in South America, old Yugoslavian cuisine on the Balkan Peninsula, traditional cuisine or Sicilian Italian cuisine, and Turkish ice cream Dondurma, famous for its mainland Turkish kebab desserts. Itaewon is also the place where the British pub culture is properly established in Korea. You can enjoy foods that are supposed to cost 2-3,000 won at family restaurants here for around 10,000 won. Itaewon is also the first place where the Nova Yaki is located in Korea. Although much of the dignity was lost now, there were no-Badayaki shops on the way past the fire department to Cheil Worldwide. Lee Tae-won is also the beginning of the handmade beer craze in the Korean beer market, which has been so tasteless and uniform that it is said to be worse than North Korea`s Taedonggang beer. Handmade beer, also called kraft beer, is characterized by different flavors and flavors according to the law of fermentation, with different ingredients such as water, malt, hop and yeast.

The Itaewon Global Village Festival, which is held in October every year, is a good idea if you don't want to be bothered by the fact that all the restaurant owners are participating in Itaewon-daero.

Transportation

There is Itaewon Station, a subway station on Seoul Subway Line 6. Just a short way from Itaewon, there is a "Gomdegar Song-gil" built in the direction of Hangangjin Station on Line 6.
