Myeong-dong(명동)
The name ranges from the administrative district in Jung-gu, Seoul, to the business district of Beopjeong-dong and the commercial district located here. The jurisdiction of Myeong-dong in Cheonggu-dong includes Mugyo-dong, Da-dong, Samgak-dong, Suha-dong, Janggyo-dong, Supyo-dong, Taepyeong-ro 1-ga, Eulji-ro 2-ga, Namdaemun-ro 2-ga, Hoehyeon-dong 1-ga (some), Hoehyeon-dong 3-ga, 2-ga, and Myeong-dong 2-ga (some 2-ga). Myeong-dong has passed through the cultural and financial centers of modern Seoul and is now a major tourist zone that serves as a tourism and shopping hub.
Myeong-dong’s main street is Myeong-dong Street, which stretches straight from Myeong-dong Station to near Euljiro Station. This street is dominated by shopping malls such as UNESCO streets and restaurants and bars. For reference, "Myeongdong Commercial Area" often means a commercial area between Myeong-dong Station and Eulji-ro Station, but Myeong-dong/ Namdaemun/Bukchang is tied up in one place on the tour course, and if it is wide, it includes the Jongno Commercial District, which is located near Cheonggyecheon Stream.
It is also a street where many foreigners can be seen, and the actual Myeong-dong is designated as a special tourist zone. In particular, Japanese tourists increased greatly due to the mid to late 2000s and the Korean Wave. Since then, with the inauguration of the Abe administration in the 2010s, the number of Japanese tourists has decreased relatively due to the yen and the worsening relations between Korea and Japan, but instead has increased," said a representative from the West, the Middle East and South Asia. With such growing demand for foreign tourists, each company is also trying to attract foreign tourists by hiring clerks who can speak foreign languages and marking information boards in stores in foreign languages.
However, this has led to cases of reverse discrimination, in which merchants are poor at service to Koreans, and often use the media.# However, there are some prejudices in the business world, which are just as much service as possible to customers who buy a lot of goods, rather than domestic and foreign, and some say that the media is making exaggerated incitement to touch people's feelings in a strange way with some cases of unfriendliness that can be found at home and abroad. In fact, people from all over the world are just crowded. Not only Koreans but also foreigners have many cases to meet unfriendly merchants.
According to statistics from the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2017, the place is the most visited by foreign tourists who have toured the city. The survey data showed that 78.3 percent of tourists visited Myeongdong. In particular, 93.9 percent of the groups whose purpose is to visit Seoul visited Myeong-dong, the survey showed.

Shopping
In case of department store, Lotte Department Store and Shinsegae Department Store are located nearby. Lotte Department Store has Lotte Evinuel and Lotte Young Plaza next to it and Lotte Hotel in the back, giving it a kind of Lotte Mall-like feeling, but it is still a very popular spot among the top department store sales nationwide. Shinsegae's main branch also complied with its sales in the top 10. For your information, the location of Lotte Young Plaza used to be the site of Midopa Department Store, which was later merged into Lotte Department Store.Across from Lotte Young Plaza is also a shopping center called "Noon Square," which used to be the site of Cosmos Department Store. However, despite being in a good place in the neck, it collapsed and was later sold here and there, changing its name from time to time, and eventually renamed it Snow Square But now, the business is doing pretty well because there are fast fashion companies and so on. Other places include Migliore and Diemol just in front of Myeong-dong Station, and M Plaza on Myeong-dong Street.
As many tourists flock to Myeongdong, there are many luxury hotels such as Lotte Hotel, Westin Chosun Hotel, President Hotel, Sejong Hotel, Rewazir Seoul Myeong-dong Hotel and Hotel Sky Park Central Branch. For the reference, the Westin Chosun Hotel operated by Shinsegae Chosun Hotel is the origin of the Joseon Hotel, which was built in 1914.
There is Seoul City Hall on the nearby Taepyeong-ro 1-ga, because there are libraries and Seoul Plaza.
There are also many underground shops nearby. On the left are Myeong-dong/Sogong and Hoehyeon Underground Shopping Center, on the Euljiro Station, on the way to Euljiro Station, and Myeong-dong Station Underground Shopping Center.
Myeong-dong Cathedral is probably the most famous of its religious facilities. The Cathedral of the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul and the cathedral, which is the epitome of Korean Catholicism. Since its establishment in 1898, Cardinal Stepheno Kim Sou-hwan and other democratic figures have declared the state of the situation during the military dictatorship, and it is also famous for its role as the center of the center during the June. In addition, Hyangrin Church, which was a major attraction of the then-ruling camp in the 1980s and is still frequently heard by the people, workers and unification-related organizations, is also located nearby.
Myeong-dong used to be the center of Seoul’s culture, but the Myeongdong Theater building, which is still located, is proof. However, since the 1970s, many music appreciation rooms, flower shops, galleries, and small theaters have moved to Hongdae Street, Sinchon Street, and Daehangno. By the way, if you look at the history of Myeong-dong Art Theater, this building was originally built as a historic building after Meiji Jwa in October 1936, and was used as a national theater after liberation. After the National Theater was relocated to Namsan, the government sold it to a company called Daehan Investment Finance in 1975 and was used as a private building instead of a securities building from 1976 to 1985. And in 1994, Daehan Synthetic, a descendant of Daehan Investment and Finance, said it would demolish the building, which it had maintained, and build a new building, drawing a kind of igro, which was cancelled when Daehan Financial went bankrupt in the face of the foreign exchange crisis in 1997, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism bought it back and restored it to the theater.
