A night market hosted by Seoul Metropolitan Government and hosted by Onite Corporation. The name originated from "Dogaebi Market," the same term as "Dotgegi Market," which means a goblin-like market that opens at night and disappears in the morning.
It first started pilot operation at Yeouido Hangang Park in 2015 and established itself as a permanent operation in 2016 to open night markets at Yeouido Hangang Park, DDP, Mokdong Stadium and Cheonggye Plaza. In 2017, the Mokdong Stadium was removed and the Cheonggyecheon Stream and Cheonggyecheon Plaza were added to open, and a pilot operation was conducted at a cultural base. In 2018, the cultural non-facilitation base was added as a permanent market, which will be operated in six locations. In 2019, Cheonggye Plaza will be removed and the Seoul Christmas Market will be held in December.
Word of mouth gained popularity, with the number of visitors rising from 200,000 in 2015 to 3.3 million in 2016, 5 million in 2017 and 2018, while the number of participating teams also increased from 120 teams in 2015 to 332 teams in 2016 and 505 teams in 2017. The title also became a representative cultural event for the Seoul Metropolitan Government, winning numerous titles in 2016 and 2018, including No. 1 in the four-season festival in Seoul, loved by foreigners, No. 1 in the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2017, No. 1 in the evaluation of Seoul’s policy brand "Naming and Design" in 2018 and No. 4 in the "Seoul Metropolitan City’s 10 News Who Changed My Life."
At the entrance, there is a platform that serves as a general information center, and it is largely divided into a food zone that sells food as a food truck and a handmade zone that sells handicraft products at a booth. In addition, there is an experience zone that embodies the characteristics of each market, and there are busking and other performances at the event zone where the stage is installed. It is also an event that has established a food truck culture in Korea. Since 2014, the government has been working on a project to foster food trucks while easing regulations on food trucks, and the Seoul Bamdokkebiya market is related to this.
