The building that oversees the administration of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and houses the institution. It is also called Seoul City Hall for short. The address is 110 Sejong-daero 1-ga in Jung-gu [3]. The administrative statue belongs to Myeong-dong.
Just across the street is the Seoul Metropolitan Council [4], which keeps Seoul City Hall in check. When you talk about the plaza in front of City Hall in Korea, it usually refers to Seoul Plaza in front of here.
The Seoul City Hall is often thought of only the main building in front of Seoul Plaza and the new building built after the Japanese colonial rule. Of course, the Seoul Metropolitan Government cannot accommodate the organization of the 10 million-strong city of Seoul with the new building, but there are also Seosomun Building [5] [6], Mugyo-dong Cheong Wa Dae [7], and Cheonggye Building [9] next to Deoksugung. For your information, the Euljiro Annex[10] was built by the Grabang Museum.
The size of the Seosomun building was so great that during the restoration of the City Hall and the construction of the application building in Seoul City Hall, the mayor’s office and other institutions were housed to serve as the main building. At first, one of the newly-built rice cakes in the city hall was the reason that it would be less efficient at work and inconvenience for people visiting the city would be caused by distributed buildings, but whenever the building was designed, the Cultural Heritage Administration and other places were used to reduce the height of the buildings and add space for citizens because of which the office was thoroughly integrated with the current building. In the end, about 30 percent of the employees were allowed to move into the applicant company, with only departments with close business ties to the market office and most of the remaining institutions located in the Seosomun building and nearby private buildings. Therefore, if a civil servant visits Seoul City Hall, he or she should check the location of the department first.
